Another addition to the Icarus Project, this is my second and final descendant of Moebus lienia.

Dipleura xanthura, meaning "Two-lunged yellow tail", is an early amoeboflagellate on Icarus. It is marine, highly organised and the first eukaryote with a flagellum, originating in part with one of M. lienia's pseudopodia. It also has an eyespot, able to detect light which helps guide it to its prey, photosynthetic cells that dwell in well lit waters. It has two permanent vacuoles that function as stomachs and the pseudopodia at the front are used in feeding.

This was extraordinarily difficult for me to accomplish, but I think it is one of my best. It is the first with proper lighting, I think it gave good contrast, especially with the pseudopodia at the front. This is the first with a light source that lends itself to that, as Moebus and Erythroecium have both been lit from the viewer's angle. I lost count of the number of layers, but there were more than 60. Probably needlessly. This time I didn't add any particulate to the water, I only just realised, and I don't think I'll bother.

Fantastic! I think you've blown my stuff out of the water... uh, so to speak. Then again, I'm aiming for a mix of quality and speed to completion. Really great work and excellent detail! It looks closer to a 3D model than a Photoshop creation. Glad your gen 3's are finally done!

The amount of effort it takes to do this is starting to get ridiculous! But I can't do it any other way, I dread to think what it's going to be like contending with larger animals, I don't think this tactic is going to hold up effectively.

It's all effects really. Meticulously cropped and re-sized and warped to the nth degree, piled upon layer after layer after layer after layer after layer...

But yeah, I was surprised how well it came out, before I added the lighting that gave it the contrast my roommate commented that it looked like his pasta. I think it looks more like a cross between SW Ep1's Bongo Sub crossed with a sperm, to be honest.

I'd say that bongo/sperm comparison is accurate. However, you should probably try and simplify your methods to save time. Break it down and stylize. Cut corners and find more efficient ways to pull off the effects you want. I think we want the Icarus Project to start moving along again at a good clip. That means we've got to streamline the techniques we employ in order to produce quality images of our creatures in reasonable amounts of time.

The ironic thing is that it started out as a simple method designed to be quick. Remember my early version of I. proteus? About ten layers, easy as pie. Though that took me a while as I was figuring out the technique, but each time I have to reinvent it. Plus they get so much more complicated! All those pseudopodia on M. lienia just took forever, as did the other quirks that were needed. When I got around to it E. thiophilus was pretty straight forward, though the vents were annoying, and I kept discovering new things whilst making it. And of course this last one wouldn't go down without a fight... Each one requires something new and makes it more complicated. I have to home in on the final look with each new layer.

Still, I'll do my best, I mean I got Moebus up on time. Before RLS and illness struck me down.
